The Expedition

Aboard a classic Land Rover Series III, we head off
in search of the roads less travelled.

We keep to the high ground, commanding a dominant ridgeline position with sweeping views across both the Florentine and the Sienese Chianti Classico. We thread through ancient hilltop villages — Montefioralle, Panzano, Volpaia — arriving at smaller, family-owned wineries where people work with heart and soul.

We offer two departures: a half-day morning experience, Buongiorno!, and a late afternoon expedition, Buonasera! — both for up to six guests, both departing from Villa Bordoni. Travelling to Greve by public transport from Florence? By prior arrangement, we are happy to collect you from the bus stop in central Greve.

Five hours in the heart
of Chianti Classico

We leave Villa Bordoni in the early morning, when the mist still lingers in the valley and the vines glow golden in the first light. Our vintage Land Rover — a vehicle as suited to these ancient roads as the oxen that once trod them — carries you through some of the most beautiful countryside in Italy.

You'll walk the cobbled alleys of Montefioralle, one of the smallest and best-preserved medieval villages in Tuscany. You'll pause in the main square of Greve in Chianti to absorb the rhythm of Chiantian daily life. The road south winds through Panzano and on to Volpaia, a fortified hamlet at nearly 640 metres, with views that reward the climb.

At two family-run wineries — chosen for their character, their story, and the quality of what they pour — you'll taste Chianti Classico as the people who make it want you to experience it: unhurried, in context, with conversation. Lunch brings the morning together.

The golden hour
aperitivo expedition

As the day's heat softens and the light turns amber across the hills, we set out into the Chianti Classico in a wholly different mood. This is the hour when the landscape reveals its warmest self — stone villages glow golden, the vines cast long shadows, and the rhythm of the countryside slows to something deeply unhurried.

We drive the high ridgelines, the valley stretching wide on either side, before arriving at a carefully chosen family winery. After a private tour of the cellar and a tasting of their Chianti Classico, we settle in for an aperitivo — a glass in hand, finger food, conversation — as the light fades over the Florentine hills.

One winery. One evening. Just six guests. You may join individually, as a couple, as a family or group of friends — or contact us for a quote for exclusive use of the vehicle.

Buonasera! — Your Evening

The Itinerary

15:30

Departure

We meet at Villa Bordoni. A brief introduction, then we're off into the afternoon hills.

The Ridge Road

We climb to the high ground, following roads few visitors ever find. The views open wide across the valley — Florentine Chianti to the north, Sienese Chianti to the south.

Winery Visit & Tasting

A private tour of a family estate, followed by a tasting of their Chianti Classico wines at the source — unhurried, in context, with the people who made them.

Aperitivo & Finger Food

As the sun drops toward the hills, we settle in for an aperitivo. A glass of wine or prosecco, something to eat, the last of the golden light.

18:30

Return to Villa Bordoni

We return as the evening settles over the valley — the best possible way to begin a Tuscan evening.
