Cradled between the ancient battlegrounds of Florence and Siena lies the high valley of the river Greve — sweet, rolling hills in a hundred shades of green, thousand-year-old fortified villages tumbling along the ridgelines. This is the heartland of Chianti Classico: home to estates with some of the most celebrated names in Italian wine, and to many smaller, unsung heroes of viticulture whose bottles deserve to be far better known. We taste the most genuine wines of central Tuscany — several Chianti Classico selections alongside some wonderfully peppery extra-virgin olive oil — and you will have the chance to purchase first-class products at farm-to-table prices.
